Solder for soldering copper using a gas torch.
Copper-phosphorus solder can be used to solder copper. The melting point of copper-phosphorus solder is low. Copper-phosphorus solder has the peculiarity that it does not need additional flux because it contains phosphorus, which performs all the necessary functions. The solder is very hard, it is almost impossible to cut off a piece of it. I use side cutters to cut the pieces off. The process is not easy because pieces always fly in different directions.

Where to solder?

You can just take a brick. I agree it is not the best option (bricks absorb the heat). At least to test everything out and try the gas burner – a brick will be more than enough. In the photo, I use a special board, in the video – a brick.

Don’t pay attention to the fact that the burner in my pictures is a professional one. I prefer to solder copper with a gas torch like this (with a cylinder). The wire is 1 mm thick or thicker. Prepare in advance pieces of copper-phosphorus solder. What are the dimensions of your frame – you will understand after you look at the pictures.

It all depends on the number of additional elements that you will be attaching to the frame. First solder the main circle of the frame, then solder the joints inside. You can solder several joints at once. Be careful not to “burn” the wire itself. The solder should flow evenly over the wire filling the joint.

After annealing, the copper becomes soft. To stiffen the copper, flatten the entire frame with a hammer on an anvil. You can use the file to sand and grind the frame.

Let’s try the cabochon on the frame.

Let’s try the cabochon on the frame.

I prepared the coils in advance for this decoration. Watch the video. Coils are the main element in making wire wrapping coils pendant.

Next, follow the plan (if there is one, of course). Slip the wire into the coil in advance. Attach the coil to the frame.

We used the spiral to limit the cabochon around the edges. Next, let’s weave the cabochon so it doesn’t fall out.

Watch a video with examples of weaving.

Let’s decorate the whole pendant with weavings.

Don’t relax – we’re not done yet. Let’s look at another example. First, repeat everything as we did before – solder the wire frame.

Attach the cabochon to the frame with a 1 mm wire. Fix the cabochon in the right place. What an unexpected way to fix a cabochon! Right!?

I used “old” scraps of spirals that remained after making some of my previous jewelry. I added wire weavings throughout the pendant.
